Unemployed middle-aged men in Galician Spain philosophize, drink, fight with their wives and rage against the machine. Pretty much in that order. Wonderfully acted, well-observed. The music by Lucio Godoy really came close to ruining it for me, though. The precious next-generation Ástor Piazzolla score (and the Tom Waits song) was just way too Miramax ca. 1993 for me to take seriously. In a vacuum this music would be fine, but in this context it made me want to tear my eyeballs out with a grapefruit spoon.
