They dont make movies like this anymore. They try, but they come out schmaltzy. The first hour is absolute perfection, the second half may be a bit too elliptical for its own good. Still, Art Carneys Oscar is well-deserved and if you dont feel a lump in your throat (a well-earned lump, mind you) then you have serious problems.
