An almost good movie.
The idea of a tight-knight family of crooks seems like something that only works in 30s gangster pictures. Animal Kingdom brings the dynamic back but, unfortunately, it isn’t all that interesting.
Joel Edgerton is really good as the one nice guy, but he’s bumped off way too easy. The ending attempts to engage as a “play both sides against one another” but it just feels like Law & Order. Ultimately, when your main character is a bore, so is your movie.
