I can not deny that I found this movie highly entertaining. Mostly because I find nerds so entertaining. I find Brian Kuh, the scion of the “evil gamer” Billy Mitchell, tiptoing on his nerdly little feet to alert grown men busy breaking their own personal pixelated bests, that a “potential kill screen” is coming very very funny.

I think Seth Gordon does a great job sculpting an interesting story out of absolutely nothing. I have two bones to pick, though. It unfairly tries to make Steve a good guy and Billy a bad guy.

Steve is a big douche because he spends his life playing Donkey Kong and ignoring his kids. When his young son begs “stop playing Donkey Kong!” that should have made Steve wake up and realize that he had to radically change his life. I know – this is something coming from a guy who is spending years of his life watching every Star Trek episode… but I don’t have kids.

Two – Billy is demonized because he is manipulative. I say, So Fucking What?! It’s not like he’s the Secretary General of the UN. He’s trying to hold on to his title in goddamned Donkey Kong. If EVER there was something where it should be cool to play mental games and kinda act like a dick, it should be for a fucking Donkey Kong score. I salute this guy – he seems to understand more that his persona is ridiculous and should be tinkered with. It is Saint Steve with his pouting and crying and “life is unfair” that makes me upset. Go wipe your crying son’s behind!
