the-hurt-locker-explosion

I gave this an “A-” the first time, but seeing it again it really holds up as something special. It is a relentless exercise in technique – plus it also has great performances. The characters I thought were a little thin the first time actually hold up to further scrutiny.

What’s really so great is that it isn’t just a political Rorschach test – you can also make it be about whatever you want in a purely fictional place as well. Forget the war – what is going on inside Sgt. James’ head? Does he know? Does he care? Is he good? Does he symbolize the best of America, or the unfortunate side effects or our good intentions? Or is this just about making the audience sweat as you snip the green cord.
