Here is an example of how a well “produced” movie without any artistry is a disaster. Here is a crew with access to some incredibley cool shit – inside the annual “TED” conference will all sorts of inventors, scientists, futurists, architects, musicians, bloggers, Al Gore and more in attendance. And it is shot and cut like a Queens public access show. An embarrassment.
Right on. Coincidentally, we also started watching this over the past weekend; but have yet to actually finish it after two viewing sessions. The crude editing and meandering pace make the conference seem like something to be endured rather than enjoyed. Any of the enthralling 20-minute TED talks posted online is a far better advertisement for that gathering than this pile.
BTW I had a feeling this thing was going to suck when I read the following interview excerpt with director Daphne Zuniga (from Ironweed, the video subscription people):
IW: Have you directed a film before? If so, what project?
DZ: No, I have never directed before. And I want to say this film was directed by committee, which was our fantastic team. We’d all have input on the narrative, editing, the speeches, the pace of the film.
I think that explains a lot.
Proud to be directed by committee? Almost as if she misses the whole point of her subject.
