I can take slow, deliberate movies. Honest, I can.
I love Tarkovsky. I love Gus Van Sant (when he’s doing this sort of thing.) I even loved the other, recent Romanian bureaucratic film The Death of Mr. Lazarescu. Police, Adjective makes The Death of Mr. Lazarescu look like Crank: High Voltage.
Be deliberate to an end – get me in a zone. Don’t just bore the pants off of me. You wanna show me a guy eating soup for five minutes? Fine. But, do it in a way, you know?
The opening scenes with dialogue (few that they were) had some of the that wearyness similar to Lazarescu, but I’ll be honest and say I checked out at the one hour mark. Zzzzzzzzz.
