A shocking episode. Jake Sisko (and we) experience the front lines of actual warfare – not scrubbed clean like in previous Trek iterations. There are heroes, cowards, wounded, there is gallows humor and hot tempers. Even I, who love the envelope pushing of DS9 thinks this almost takes it to the limit. A foxhole-traped Starfleeter condemning young Jake for running for his life? Kinda harsh. A strange and unique moment in the Trek timeline.
