Pound for pound the most innovative and intellectually stimulating episode in Star Trek history. I remember that chill I got, age 12, watching the midnight broadcast on Channel 11 (or was it Channel 9?) when we first see evil Spock with a beard. This is the episode I show to people when they want to see what all the fuss is about Star Trek. It’s interesting to watch this episode today and realize the paralles between the evil I.S.S. Enterprise and the Bush administration. The Halkans have dilithium crystals (oil) and an empire based on fear and might will take those resources. Even evil Mr. Spock can not argue the logic that this empire is spreading itself thin leaving it open to insurrection and eventual destruction. I know that we’ll be revisiting the mirror universe in Enterprise and Deep Space 9. I am psyched.
