In an attempt to both cut expenses and reduce clutter, I called the New York Times today to cancel my weekend subscription. I like having the paper around, but $20 a month is too much money to spend on anything that is free online. So I called them up, told them I wanted to cancel — and the woman said, “how about if we reduce the price?” Just like that! So now I am paying $8.90/month for Saturday & Sunday delivery from now until October! And all I had to do was ask!

From now on, whenever I buy something, I am going to say, “Hey! How about I pay half instead?”
