Don’t say the Chinese aren’t already ahead of us. In the 21st Century you’re gonna have to be efficient. Like, for example, eating your dinner and dessert at the same time. The Chinese have already accomplished this in Cha Su Bao — which Ann and I tried for the first time the other day at the Golden Unicorn Dim Sum House on East Broadway in Chinatown.

Cha Su Bao is a doughnut, basically. Imagine a Boston Creme doughnut without any chocolate on top. Just a nice mild glaze and a fluffy yet firm dough. Imagine biting into it and tasting. . . BBQ Pork! Like a McRib Creme! The strangest thing is. . .it kinda works! I had two of ’em!

[BTW — all New Yorkers who don’t go and try Dim Sum once in a while are really missing out on a great experience. But be warned: for every two dishes that are great, there’s one that is just repulsive. The gummy mustard squid just wasn’t to my taste. I don’t think I want Dim Sum every week, but once in a while it is fun. And cheap!! Just don’t get annoyed that the cart ladies will continue to speak to you in Chinese even though you’ve made it clear to them that other than Ni Hao and Zai Jin you don’t know how to speak Chinese. . .they’ll just keep going and going and going. . . like the wheels on the carts themselves. . . .]
