It’s no “Gerry” and it’s no Elephant, but, oddly, Mr. Van Sant has created a cinematic style completely his own with these three films — so much so that it is foolish to compare the three. They are three stories filtered through this lens, that’s the only connection. Poor Little Rock Star is a bit hard to identify with, but sleepy stoners in a large house singing along to “Venus in Furs” and eating mac & cheese is always good for a hoot. I enjoyed this movie a great deal, though would have no come back if you argued it sucked.
