In my memory, this was one of the greatest films of all time. I still like it a great deal, but it wasn’t as antic as I remembered. Still, quite a great mix of character and location. Shag carpet, beer with pull tabs, fast talkin auctioneers, septuagenarians with shotguns. The souvenir stand at the end is just freaking fantastic.
“I believe it is about a pimp living in Berlin.”
To use one of your phrases, I have to “call bullshit” on your giving the great Stroszek a miserly B plus. And right after giving an A to the monumental pile of crap called Zabriskie Point? An outrage. Of course, I havent’ seen Stroszek since we saw it so many years ago, maybe I’ve also overestimated it.
And if you like movies about German accordion players who travel to America, you should check out “Schultze gets the Blues.” No dancing chickens, but there are plenty of amusing misunderstandings. I wonder what a German might make of it.
