Well. . .one could argue that maybe they shoulda left well enough alone. The whole feature length enterprise is just an excuse to see our old friends again and give Dawn one last chance to dump Lee and run off with Tim. Although Tim kinda pisses me off. . .if he’s given up on going back to school, why does he allow Garreth to take over David’s position? Doesn’t make sense. Either quit or move ahead, don’t stay where you are and complain about it. Sigh. A little too much like real life.
Oh no. No no no no no! Say it isn’t so. Surely the brilliant comedy of Gervais et al did not elude you! Maybe it’s because you’re not a heterosexual girl or a homosexual man. But you have no idea how many sighed when Dawn opened Tim’s gift in the car and saw his note! And then she comes back and Tim is completely taken by surprise when she kisses him! I watched that scene biting my knuckles.
As for your previous statement about Tim annoying you for not taking Brent’s job, it had to do with an unspoken belief that if he were to take it, the ropes are further tightened, his attachment to this office more affirmed, and in his mind it was a stifling notion. Better to remain somewhat of an underling and remain true to himself, whatever that version of truth is. I understand it completely. 2 jobs ago there was a guy as deluded as Garreth in my office. He had an enormous sense of self importance that couldn’t be further from the real scope of the office hierarchy. People laughed behind his back. It was kind of sad. I don’t know that you’ve ever worked in an office like that, have you?
I have never quite worked in an office like that. . .but I did know a Garreth when I worked at my telemarketing gig. He was the office manager & he was completely incompetent. Y’know, never any pens, yet it was his job to get pens. A complete moron. Yet the boss thought he was fantastic. The funny thing was NO ONE respected him and even I found myself flat out insulting him to his face (much like Tim calling Gareth on the phone and whispering “cock!”)
I liked the Office Special a great deal. A B+ is a high grade — and I, too, was caught up in emotion when Dawn opened Tim’s gift. It is a wonderful moment.
