Fans of insane Christopher Walken performances will have a lot of material with this picture, a standard procedural film about a mercenary setting up a coup in a small African nation. I would respect the film more if it were more honest, that everyone here is a greedy, murdering motherfucker. I guess some studio head along the way realized this wouldn’t fly, so some of the most artifical love-story scenes are crammed into this testosterone flick with all the subtelty of a whack-a-mole game. A large midsection of the picture is just detailing how one gets a boatload of arms overseas — a formidable challenge, but kind’ve boring cinema. Still, this movie could have been a lot worse.
