This is the bizarro world version of “Paths of Glory.” Not just in terms of story (a court-martial not of cowards, but of, perhaps, someone who is too gung ho) but in that it full-on sucks as well. Gary Cooper, who can be terrific, is at his most embarrasingly wooden here. The only thing that kept me going was to see just how boring one movie could be — in train-wreck style it just kept a-chuggin’. In an unexpected twist, Coop’s character sends off a memo predicting the attack on Pearl Harbor a good 20 years before it happened — perhaps Coop’s ghost can play Richard Clark when dramatizing the August PDB.
