If you are interested by urban racial politics and you’ve already read everything by Tom Wolfe, Freedomland is a good fix. I hear the movie version is awful — and I can see why. The book, even at 550 pages, is very microscopic. Not much, in terms of action, actually happens. But the topic is endlessly fascinating, even if the prose is kinda purple at times.
