No, I’ve never read this before.
Here is something of a play-by-play of my reaction.
Pages 1 – 25:
I have absolutely no idea what is happening. Who can follow any of this? This is just typing. Random typing by a man on amphetamines.
Pages 25 – 35:
Wait, I think I’m starting to follow what is going in.
Pages 35 – 100:
This is absolutely fucking brilliant. Not only do I understand why this revolutionized popular culture in 1984, I can see why it is a persistent force and inspiration for writers and thinkers. It is shockingly prescient, but only secondary to still revolutionary ideas and great story telling.
Pages 100 – 125:
Uh, I think I’m not exactly following.
Pages 125 – 185:
I have absolutely no idea what is happening. Who can follow any of this? This is just typing. Random typing by a man on amphetamines.
Pages 185 – 220:
Oh, God, when will this end? This is impossible to make heads or tales of. My eyes are moving across the page and I am hearing the words but I am retaining none of this.
Pages 220 – 250:
Ah, I think I kinda know how this is wrapping up, just because I know how things like this are supposed to end. Kinda cool. I think.
really? it’s that confusing 25 years later? i think count zero and mona lisa overdrive threw me for a loop but I read this one a bunch.
