No doubt a response to fan-favorite The Inner Light from TNG, but instead of being bittersweet this is just plain tragic. O’Brien is given a sentence of 20 years of horrible prison time….injected directly to his brain. The events didn’t really happen, but try telling that to O’Brien (or Philip K. Dick.)
After a quick zap to the noggin’, O’Brien is forever changed and must eventually reveal that he “killed” his best friend inside for a scrap of bread. Therapy and pills will help, but there’s no status quo at the end of this episode. Very well done.
