Imagine if John Waters and Guy Maddin collaborated on a collection of hot jazz videos starring old Jewish men, young gay Los Angelinos, Warhol superstar Viva, a giant frog wearing a tux, Satan, Susan Tyrrell and Hervé Villechaize. And that it took place in the 6th Dimension, which could only be entered through a giant tongue in our hero’s basement. I could go on. A wonderful Z grade film with a good sense of humor, fantastic sets (by which I mean one set, redressed, over and over again) and some fun animation. Hervé Villechaize does have a love scene. Ann pointed out that due to the black and white and overall 30s style look, the only thing dated was the font of the credits. Music provided by director Elfman and his brother Danny’s old band, The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.
