A wonderful theatre-going experience. Finely observed, quiet, gorgeously shot. . .I dunno if this one would work on DVD unless you have a mini-screening room. A man breaks up with this girlfriend, goes back to his ex, breaks up with his ex, goes back to the newest ex, breaks up with her again. A lot of staring into hot cups of tea in between. The film may be restrained, but the performances aren’t. The embarrassed, muted dialogue is fraught with glances and looks and unsettling quirks that are just a little too real. Scenes get so quiet that someone munching a nut sounds like construction. There’s a scene of agressive sex and its hard to tell at first if it is consentual or not. Critics online (and in realspace!) come away with different opinions. Starring the director and his real-life wife (both in their acting debuts!) as the couple that can’t communicate. How’s THAT for a difficult set! Well done.
