It is a testament to how gifted a performer Michael Caine is that the despicable Alfie (who will refer to a woman not as “she” or “her” but “it”) will still come across, somehow, as likeable. I recognize that “Alfie” was a revolutionary film in 1966, but seeing it for the first time today it seems more like a curio. Still, a good curio.
