Ann and I recently spent some time at the Frick Collection. A little odd that this was only my second time inside.
The late-guilded age mansion of this violent, strikebreaking capitalist is one of the most beautiful spots in all of New York City and is also one of the strangest museum-going experiences.
And it is so much fun to say! I dare you not to go then to say to your companion, “That was Frickin’ Great!”
As was the desire of Mr. Frick, his collection is a hodge-podge of whatever he liked. Dutch masters next to Impressionists next to Pre-Rennaisance woodcuts next to Chinese vases and some crafty-lookin’ desks with 450 year old ticking clocks on them.
And I was amazed at how much this 500 painting of Sir Thomas More looked just like my memory of Paul Scofield.
