Okay, I know only a very small percentage of you who actually read my Star Trek reviews want to know about the Star Trek comics I’m reading (I believe I am now writing to an audience of one, so, Shappy, how ya doin?) but the fact remains: Klingons: Blood Will Tell might be the awesomest comic book I’ve ever read. The gorgeous trade paperback (released a little less than a year ago) collects the entire story arc (more on this in a moment) plus a KLINGON LANGUAGE VERSION of the first chapter! Q’aplaH!

The story is set in a little pocket of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, after the destruction of Praxis but before Chancellor Gorkon approached the UFP for a new treaty and aid. A lone member of the council chamber must decide if survival is enough of a reason to make peace with the Terrans. In mulling this over, he tells his granddaughter tales of the Empire’s recent dealings with the Earthers – stories very familiar to us (Errand of Mercy, The Trouble With Tribbles, A Private Little War and Day of the Dove, specifically) but from the Klingon point of view. For a trekkie this is fascinating stuff – for a regular person, I bet, this is cool, too. (Who knew Arne Darvin had such a troubled inner life??!)

I can’t recommend this book enough.
