You’ll be hard-pressed to find a bigger Tull fan than I. (Well, that’s not exactly true. I only own a fraction of their released albums, but of the ones I have I adore.) This concert shows them just as they are about to elevate themselves from power blues band (I contend they rocked as hard in this vein as the Who or Zeppelin) (Okay, not as hard as Zeppelin, but close) to the “something else” that the album “Aqualung” would bring. I admit, they coulda used an editor (dear Christ, who told Classic Rock that every concert needed a drum solo?) but when they are on they are on. There’s only six tunes on full display here — that’s all that got filmed, I’m sure. The rest of the DVD is padded out with footage of the Isle of Wight festival (which is cool, but we saw it already in the main Isle of Wight film of Lerner’s, “Message to Love”) and some reminiscence by Ian Anderson. Anderson, as I’m sure you are aware, is a riot, so this aspect of the video is welcomed. In all: good, not great.
