Ann, Kim & I went to the Merchant’s House Museum in the East Village yesterday. Built in 1832 it is the NYC’s only family home preserved, inside and outside, from the early 19th Century.

What I find so remarkable is that, up until recently, this was a pretty sketchy block. And the house has perservered. (You know the block . . .it’s just a little bit west of Bowery Bar and a little bit east of Other Music.) Anyway, in this photo, you can see its closest neighbor — a garage for street vendors.
