Woah — those are some badass environmentalists! Based on the actual “Wild Yak Brigade,” a group of Tibetans tough guys are out to catch poachers of the Tibetan Antelope on the plain. This sounds like a really corny premise, but touch feely conservation (not that that is automatically a bad thing) is tossed aside for hardcore existential man v. nature filmmaking. Snowstorms, quicksand, high-altitude strokes, trucks caught in mud — one calamity after another. The cinematography is remarkable (this two year old film is being distributed in the US under the new “National Geographic Films” banner, if that is any indication); visually it ranks with any of the great epics shot on location. Highly recommended.
