Significantly depressing, but not shocking. I think the film averted its eyes to much of the horror. I’ve read many of the testimonials of the slaughter over the years (mostly in “Harper’s”) and they usually make me sick to my stomach. I kinda feel like this movie danced around some of the sickening facts in order to stick with its relatively uplifting story of “one man’s strength.” “Schindler’s List” had a similar subject — but kept the horror. Then again, that’s a 3 hour movie. Maybe there’s another cut of “Hotel Rwanda” out there that does this. I’d like to see the doc about the Nick Nolte character in this film, the UN officer whose hands were tied.
