I’ve seen 8 of the 10 Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers pictures and I have to say this is the weakest so far. The story is just awful. You really get the sense that the script was being written as the film was being shot and that they were painting themselves into a corner. Also: Randoph Scott, who was the worst thing about the terrific Roberta is back to stink the place up again.
Another problem with Follow The Fleet: Fred Astaire is not a swabby. Let Sinatra be a swabby in Anchors Aweigh. Fred Astaire a top hat, white tie and tails. Don’t fuck with the formula! The musical numbers and Ginger’s spunk save the show, though.
