My reflex to grade things has bled over from just movies and Filet-O-Fish sandwiches. The descriptive floorplan to Dia: Beacon made for a suitable scorecard. diascorecard.jpg

Richard Serra and Fred Sandback were the big winners. Ann was more impressed with Sol Lewitt and Agnes Martin. Imi Knoebel can go “F” himself. His art looks like the back room of a Seaman’s on Steinway St. I ain’t too impressed with Hanne Darboven either. Just looked to me that she had a lot of free time. (Although it is interesting to note how much full frontal nudity appeared on the cover of Der Spiegel in the 70s!)

Overall, I give the Dia: Beacon an A-, and Ann agrees. An awesome place, but the minus is because you have to check your coat in one pavillion, then walk in the cold to get to the main pavillion. Does this make any sense to anyone?!?! Also, there is nothing to do in Beacon. There aren’t even any restaurants or cutesy antique stores worth your time. The place is an armpit.
