I am hereby willing to admit that I have no idea what I thought about Michael Frayn’s play Democracy. Jason loved it. Ann and Melissa gave it thumbs down. I was just so baffled that I and hundreds of other people just sat in an ornate Broadway theater for over two hours as the minutae of an esoteric political scandal from West Germany in the early 1970s presented itself before our eyes. You’d think the play would somehow be, um, like a metaphor. . .for something. Well it either was and I missed it, or it wasn’t, in which case the play is absolutely absurd. This would be like, say, in the year 2030, somewhere in Germany, a play went up about Clinton firing Dick Morris. I wasn’t bored during the play, just baffled.
