Trek and ancient Rome, together at last! This episode, while loaded with sexual innuendo and snide jokes also features a truly touching moment between Spock and McCoy. Turns out all those put downs are actually hurting both their feelings. Oh, I wish they’d just kiss already!! The ending is a little odd, when Lt. Uhura turns the big “worship the Sun” puzzle around into “worship the Son.” They don’t quite all start speaking in tongues, but it gets pretty Christian in the last few seconds of this episode. Have to wonder how William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Walter Koenig — all Jews — felt about that. (though if you parse the language, you could argue they are simply talking about Christ from an historical perspective.)
