It would be very easy to hate The Thaw. It is way silly and a little annoying and has Michael McKean as a clown. But unlike the somewhat similar godawful DS9 episode Move Along Home it never reached that level of total embarrassment. For one thing, the SF concepts are kinda cool – predating The Matrix for one thing.
I must complain about one moment. Torres has to zap a bunch of circuits and only has a few seconds to do it. So she gets her tool and starts moving down a row. Janeway is over her shoulder going c’mon c’mon under her breath. And at the last minute Torres is locked out and can’t complete the task. What kind of leadership is this? Why didn’t ten people each grab a zapper and zap at once? Woulda been done in no time!
