You can count on anything continuing the narrative of Worf’s search for identity to be intriguing. It is like a rich vein of untaped dilithium. Still – there is the risk of becoming predictable and, alas, there isn’t a beat in Rules of Engagement that you don’t see coming at you at quarter impulse power.

One thing: it is well known that Trek banged production out of these episodes at lightning speed. As a result, innovative camera techniques are a rarity. Story, performances, makeup and f/x are key in the Trek universe. But this episode is unique in its uses of direct address, long takes and steadicam. Hats off to director LeVar Burton….perhaps his status as alum allowed him a longer production schedule.
