The Vulcan Academy Murders
This was a test case and I have decided something. I am going to steer clear of the (hundreds of) books in my Star Trek Project. Two main reasons — the books are certainly “non-canonical,” meaning there are incedents of contradiction with events and character attributes seen in the shows and films. Other key reason — based on this spotcheck, the stories are asinine. You get plenty of bad episodes, but at least they are over quick and there’s always some laugh value. I had a bit of an epiphany midway through The Vulcan Academy Murders: this is a waste of my fucking time!
So I did something I very rarely do — I stopped reading before the end and tossed it aside. I don’t like to do that with books (or films, or anything really) but I made an exception in this case.
I did flip to the end — turns out the Vulcan Academy Murderer was exactly who I expected it was. Go know.
Read any Star Trek novel by author Peter David and I bet you’d be changing your tune… also I recommend the Kobayatsi Maru? from the original Trek novels. It’s badass! A few years ago I was reading all the trek novels in the order that they were released and it was infuriating how bad some books were but like anything else, with a little research and luck, there ARE some diamonds in the rough,,,,
