Peter Gabriel Melt

I can’t stop listening to Peter Gabriel’s third album. His third of three untitled albums. . .the one with his face melting off on the cover.

I first got into Peter Gabriel pretty seriously in 8th or 9th grade — in between “So” and “Passion.” When I went back into his catalogue at this time, nothing blew my mind more than “Security.” It still may be his best work. (”I Have The Touch” is certainly his best song.) Anyway, the three untitled albums, to me, were always kinda his sub-par stuff. It wasn’t as great as “Security” and seemed uneventfull considering he’d just come fromt the total orgiastic prog bombast of Gensis’ “Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.”

Well, for whatever reason, I dug up the third album recently. This is terrific stuff! From the opening dissonant scratches of “Intruder” to the odd computerized echoes of “I Don’t Remember” to the anthemic “Biko.” If you have this tucked away somewhere deep in your collection, give it a second spin.
